Grading & Report Cards

Grades will be categorized and weighted as follows:

• Performance: 70% of overall course grade
  • Grades entered into the performance category will be tied to standards and be based on rubric scoring.
• Practice: 30% of overall course grade
  • Grades entered into the practice category should reference rubric scoring and should focus on building the skills required for the performance category.

Teachers are expected to keep an up-to-date gradebook in Infinite Campus.

• For each standard assessed in the performance category, students must have multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery (such as multiple assignments, spiraling assessments, retakes or alternative assignments).
• Grades will be entered into Infinite Campus within two weeks of an assignment’s due date or student submission (due dates may vary based on accommodations).

Grades entered in the gradebook should be an accurate reflection of student competencies and skills, largely based on rubrics used to assess the skill and standard, rather than graded for completion or incompletion.

• Rubrics:
  • Rubrics must be used for every performance grade entered into the gradebook.
  • Rubrics must be based on Jeffco Proficiency Scales, CTE Student Learning Outcomes, or educator-determined skill proficiencies.
• Homework: Homework may be assigned based on purposeful practice, learning, extension and skill development, but should only be factored into student grades as part of the practice category, if at all.
• Grading scale:
  • (A): 90-100%
  • (B): 80-89%
  • (C): 70-79%
  • (D): 60-69%
  • (F): below 60%
  • Missing (M): 0

If students do not complete an assignment, it will be entered as missing (M) on Infinite Campus and will be averaged as a 0 until the student turns in the assignment.

Upon conferencing with students and setting a new due date, teachers may temporarily enter an incomplete (I) for an assignment, which will not average into the student’s grade until after the new due date (teacher converts to (M) at that point).

Students will receive credit for a course if they have attained an average of 60% or above.

• Performance tasks
  • Performance tasks will not be penalized for late work through point deduction.
  • Missing assignments will be entered as missing or incomplete until the work is either submitted or excused by the teacher.
  • Teachers will excuse or replace the grade for a performance task if they have sufficient evidence of student learning gathered from other assignments or means (alternate demonstration of learning).
• Practice tasks
  • Missing assignments will be entered as missing or incomplete until the work is either submitted or excused by the teacher.
  • Late penalties are at the discretion of the teacher; however, must at a minimum, honor the district allowance of two days for every excused absence before penalties are incurred.
  • Teachers may elect to open and close submission windows for accepting late work to encourage students to prioritize demonstrations of current standards. 
  • Teachers may choose to excuse or replace the grade for an assignment, at their discretion, if they have sufficient evidence of student learning gathered from other assignments or means (alternate demonstration of learning).

Students can demonstrate learning in the performance category at any point in the semester, but they may be required to complete certain practice tasks to prepare for that performance demonstration if this is not the first attempt.

Policies and procedures for grading not covered by this grading policy should be explicitly written into the course syllabus. This may include, but is not limited to:

• Retake opportunities and procedures
• Possible late work penalties for practice tasks (within the district policy of two days for every excused absence). There are no late work penalties on performance tasks
• Possible clarification around incomplete (I) procedures
