Transitioning from Middle School
Starting high school is an exciting event in a student’s life and can also be a challenging time as well. By definition, transition means the change from one place, state of being, or condition to another place, state of being, or condition.
This transition means a whole new school building, new teachers, new classmates, and notably more challenging material along with enhanced postsecondary planning and graduation requirements. This transition affects adolescents’ academic experiences, motivation, self-perception, and self-regulation. This process also affects parents and teachers.
Effective transition programs help students move to a new school and become a part of the new school. With the implementation of transition programs and the support of parents, teachers, administrators, and mental health professionals, this transition can positively impact students both socially and academically.
Future Freshmen Bulldogs
Arvada HS Counselors will meet with 8th graders at North Arvada Middle School and Foster PK-8 in February to help them select classes for their 9th grade year. Counselors will explain what classes are required, what electives are available and how to request courses.
If you are coming to Arvada from a different middle school, you will apply through Enroll Jeffco and then receive a form to request classes. If you have questions about choosing classes, please call our counseling office at 303-982-0120 and we'll be glad to help.
First Day at Arvada HS
The first day of school for 9th graders is an orientation day for freshmen only. Students are given their schedule, a tour and other information to help them feel at home when classes start. Back-to-School night takes place a week or so after the start of school and is a chance for families to get to know our staff and our school.
